Man missed boat, slept in monster truck, assaulted officers

THINGS went from bad to worse for a 42-year-old man who missed the boat, fell asleep in the back of a Monster Truck and ended up assaulting two police officers.

Appearing via video link in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court, Sean Richard Thompson pleaded guilty to four charges including two counts of serious assault on a police officer while adversely affected (by alcohol).

Defence lawyer Nick Larter said his client should have been working on a fishing boat when the incident took place on August 7, but the boat left without him and he had nowhere to stay.

The court heard Thompson then got drunk and went to sleep in the back of a Monster Truck, which was parked in Bundaberg to promote an upcoming event.

Thompson woke up to find the truck moving and then his bag, with all his belongings, fell out before he could attract anyone's attention.

A "cranky" Thompson caused a disturbance which police attended, resulting in a scuffle.

Thompson was immediately released on parole having served 56 days.
