Man, 23, in hospital after being hit by driver

UPDATE 11.25AM:  Police have charged a 57-year-old man after a 23-year-old man was hit in a car accident last night.

The younger man sustained severe injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver was arrested a short time after the incident. 

He has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

FRIDAY 10.30PM: A man was struck by a car on Draper Street in Cairns. 

The incident involving the pedestrian, believed to be in his 20s, occurred around 7.35pm.

He sustained severe head injuries in the accident.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the scene.
