Mackay man charged with strapping drugs to torso at airport

A MAN travelling to Mackay has been arrested at Brisbane Domestic Airport and charged with strapping a large quantity of the drug ice to his body.

Detectives from the State Drug Squad yesterday charged the 20-year-old Mackay man after he was allegedly located with a suspicious package strapped to his torso.

Three separate packages containing a crystalline substance, believed to be methylamphetamine, known as the drug ice, were located.

Approximately 750 grams of the drug (worth approximately $240,000) was seized as a result of this interception.

Detective Inspector Mark Slater of State Crime Command's Drug and Serious Crime Group said police are appealing for anyone with information about these dangerous drugs to come forward.

"Ice continues to be a drug of major concern to police and this seizure was significant in terms of the quantity seized," Detective Inspector Slater said.

"This drug is extremely dangerous and we encourage anyone with any knowledge of these drugs within the community to call Crime Stoppers."

The man was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning. He was remanded to appear again on September 28.
