Lyon not concerned by lack of wickets in Test warm-up
CRICKET: Nathan Lyon is approaching Australia’s opening Test against Sri Lanka with confidence despite being outbowled by spin twin Steve O’Keefe in the tourists’ only warm-up match.
Playing for a spot in the Test team, O’Keefe finished with match figures of 10-64 to help propel Australia to an innings and 162-run victory over a Sri Lankan Board XI in Colombo.
He impressed with the bat, too, top-scoring with 78 not out in the tourists’ only innings.
Lyon finished with just two wickets for the match, taking 0-82 from 13 overs in the home side’s first dig and 2-14 in their second, but showed no concern when speaking to media later.
“You look at the scoreboard and you see no wickets, but I was really happy with the way they came out. I was creating chances,” he said.
“These tour games, a lot of the batsmen seem to go out with no fear, there’s no consequences for those guys.
“Come the Test matches, it’s a different story.”
Australia is tipped to play both Lyon and O’Keefe in the first Test, which starts in Kandy on Tuesday.
