MOTORSPORT: Craig Lowndes cruised to a 12th career win at the Queensland Raceway when taking out race 17 of the Supercars season, the Ipswich Super Sprint.

Starting from the outside of the front row, Lowndes (pictured) made a perfect start to beat pole-sitting Jamie Whincup to the first corner.

Outside of two pitstops, Lowndes was never headed as he extended his own record of most career wins to 105 and notched a record-equalling 80th with Holden.

“We sort of click around this place,” the TeamVortex driver said.

“It was really important to get a good start and we did that.”

Whincup was forced to settle for second place while Chaz Mostert, Michael Caruso and Mark Winterbottom rounded out the top five.

Whincup now leads the championship by 110 points from Shane Van Gisbergen.
