How eatery owners are using Facebook to their benefit

FOOD can be fickle, and in Gladstone where the options aren't limitless, it pays to keep an open mind.

Some of Gladstone's top restaurant owners and operators recognise that joining forces and working together is making for a stronger food fare.

Entrepreneurs like the franchise owner of Hog's Breath on Goondoon St, Alex Staines, are engaging in delicious discussions around tasteful tapas, mouth-watering meat and dainty desserts.

"We all understand what it's like to walk in other people's shoes and by supporting other businesses in the industry it shares that burden," he said.

He said the hospitality industry almost had a reputation of ongoing battles between restaurants.

"But it should be a way of solidarity," he said. "We have a common goal for a strong hospitality industry in Gladstone, and attacking your comrades is not going to benefit anybody."

When Hog's Breath was still in development, Alex utilised the Facebook page Gladstone Food Rater to ask people for feedback and keep them informed.

Other business owners - such as the Tannum Sands' new Tapas de Vino - are now doing the same.

"Communication is free in this industry," he said.

Alex said that customers just want to be heard.

"At the end of the day they have the choice to where they go and if they're not going to be appreciated they'll choose to go elsewhere," he said.
