Klinger skippers Gloucestershire to one-day win

WEST Australian batsman Michael Klinger has captained Gloucestershire to victory in England's domestic one-day competition at Lord's, the team holding on for a six-run win against Surrey.

Though the star of the lead-up matches with a competition-high 531 runs in seven innings, Klinger was out for a third-ball duck as Gloucestershire was bowled out for 221. Former England fast bowler Jade Dernbach was the pick of the bowlers for Surrey, finishing with 6-35, including a hat-trick.

The target looked within reach thanks to a patient 60 from retiring Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara.

His 101-run stand with Rory Burns (56) had Surrey set for victory, needing just 36 runs from the final six overs with five wickets in hand, but suffered a late batting collapse.

"Unfortunately, I missed out, but the boys chipped in really well and we got to a competitive total," Klinger (pictured) said after the win.
