MICHAEL J Ireland's letter to the editor (TMB 20/6/17) quite frankly is disgusting and un-Australian. Mr Ireland just wants to spread fear, hate and intolerance.

His disgraceful comments come just days before Queensland's first Multicultural Month, the state's largest celebration of multiculturalism.

On his blog, Mr Ireland calls for a "Whiter Brighter World", to "stand up for the White Race so we can make this a better place for our own Kind" and incites violent racial extremism by calling for the start of a "White Racial Holy War".

White supremacy and violent racial extremism, like that incited by Mr Ireland, has no place in our community and I will not stand for it.

Queensland and indeed Central Queensland have always drawn strength from the rich cultures and traditions of people from diverse backgrounds.

Multiculturalism is at the heart of who we are.

It is why we will continue to make sure that new ideas and new people are always welcome here in Central Queensland.

Queensland is home to people who speak more than 220 languages, hold more than 100 religious beliefs and come from more than 220 countries.

Multiculturalism benefits our economy, productivity, workforce and regional development.

A multicultural society provides many opportunities for a diversified workforce and business ventures, as well as access to tourism and export markets.

I will promote harmony, tolerance, diversity and inclusion. I will not stand for fear, racism or extremism. A tolerant and inclusive community is a strong, united and peaceful community and that's the kind of place we all want to live in.

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Dr Martin Luther King Jnr
