ISIS terror bombing on Muslims leaves 80 dead

ISLAMIC State has claimed responsibility for twin suicide bombings that have killed at least 80 people peacefully demonstrating in Kabul.

A further 230 people were wounded and the death toll could rise, health officials in the Afghan capital warned.

The Ministry of Interior said three suicide bombers were involved in the attack, but one bomb had exploded prematurely and one of the bombers was shot dead by police, NBC reported.

Images too graphic for publication show dead bodies lying on a blood- spattered road littered with debris.

Overwhelmed by the number of injured, city hospitals were appealing for people to donate blood.

The demonstrators, most of them members of the Hazara ethnic minority, were calling on the government to re-route a powerline through their province.

President Ashraf Ghani vowed "revenge" against the backers of the attack and announced yesterday as a national day of mourning.
