Collingwood Park woman, 25, dies in horrific highway crash

UPDATE 7AM: A 25-YEAR-OLD Collingwood Park woman died in a single-vehicle traffic crash on the Cunningham Hwy on Tuesday night.

Just before 6pm the woman was travelling southbound on the Cunningham Hwy at New Chum when the vehicle lost control and hit a tree.

The woman, the only occupant of the car, died at the scene. Police have left the scene and the highway had re-opened but the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 5AM: THE Cunningham Hwy at Riverview has reopened after a fatal traffic crash on Tuesday night. 

Authorities say a woman died when her car smashed into a tree just before 6pm. 

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating. 

The westbound lanes of the highway near the Aberdare St overpass at Riverview were closed for hours last night as police carried out their investigations. 

No other people were involved in the crash. 

 

UPDATE 9.30PM: POLICE are still on scene of a fatal traffic crash on the Cunningham Hwy at Riverview. 

Traffic delays are expected as the Forensic Crash Unit continue their investigations.

UPDATE 7.50PM: A WOMAN has died following a serious traffic crash on the Cunningham Hwy this evening. 

Queensland Ambulance Services confirmed the female driver died when her car smashed into a tree near the Aberdare St on-ramp just before 6pm.

The westbound lanes of the highway near the Aberdare St overpass at Riverview are closed and diversions are in place. 

No other people were involved in the crash. 

Police are diverting traffic onto Brisbane Rd from the Ipswich Mwy at Dinmore. 

INITIAL: POLICE have closed the Cunningham Hwy at Riverview following a serious multi-vehicle crash.

The highway was closed at the Aberdare St on ramp a few moments after the crash happened at 6.15pm. 

Authorities are unable to say how many vehicles were involved. 

The Forensic Crash Unit has been called in. 

One car has crashed into a tree and the person inside is seriously injured. 

Long delays are expected and motorists should avoid the area.
