Man assaults cop as he's being released

A 31-YEAR OLD man will face court next month, accused of trying to break a Marburg police officer's finger and kneeing him in the stomach.

The Redbank Creek man was being released from police custody in relation to another matter when the alleged offence took place.

It was alleged the man was being verbally abusive to police when he lashed out and grabbed the officers hand and tried to break it.

It was reported that officer was also kicked in the stomach but managed to escape any injuries.

The alleged incident took place on Highland St in Esk on June 10 about 9.30pm.

The man has been charged with serious assault causing bodily harm, public nusiance and two counts of obstructing police while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

He will face all four charges at Toogoolawah Magistrates Court on July 2.
