Woman 'bashed and stabbed' in attack

A MAN is in custody after the alleged horrific bashing and stabbing of a young woman.

Police were called to a Riverview house about 9am Wednesday, where a woman was found with multiple injuries including suspected broken arms, broken legs and several stab wounds.

Several weapons, including a golf club, were allegedly used in the assault on the 20-year-old woman, who was later taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment in a stable condition.

Police later charged Riverview man William Joel Noel Compton with committing acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

Compton was not required to appear in the dock when his case was briefly heard at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Thursday.

No application for bail was made and the matter was adjourned to October 28.
