Hugh Sheridan takes in the Gympie region's sights

WHILE there will be little chance of spotting the oversized, badass lead character of horror film Boar, sighting one of the many well known human cast members around town is proving to be pretty easy.

I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time late on Thursday when Hugh Sheridan breezed by on his way to Woolworths at Gympie's Central.

Looking relaxed while shopping for groceries, the Packed to the Rafters actor obligingly took a few moments to chat.

When I asked him what he thought about the region, the down-to-earth star sang its praises.

"It's beautiful. It's my first time in Gympie and I love it," he said.

"It's been amazing. I've been shooting down in Melbourne for the last few months so it's clearly an amazing change to come up here and just be in beautiful weather."

BOAR'S cast, made up of seasoned actors John Jarratt, Nathan Jones, Melissa Tkautz, Bill Moseley and Ernie Dingo, arrived in the region today to begin filming the next horror film by Sunshine Coast director Chris Sun.

Filming will take place in the Mary Valley over the next few weeks, hot on the heels of the success of Charlie's Farm, Sun's first film shot in the region last year. The result will be a beast of a film, where a ferocious and towering swine reins its filthy terror on the townsfolk of "Kandanga".

Kandanga will not only feature in the movie in name sake, from Monday filming will take place at the Kandanga Hotel, where a number of local extras will stamp the town's flavour on the film.

But before then, Sheridan will be taking in the region's sights, perhaps a trip to Tin Can Bay this weekend, he said.

"It's just such a nice change, it's been beautiful; we've all been relaxing and trying to remember that we have to work."
