Future of Uber: Government keeps review under wraps

AN independent report into taxi services and ride-sharing business Uber will be handed to the Queensland Government on Sunday but the taxi industry will remain in the dark about its contents for some time.

Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has confirmed the government plans to dissect the Opportunities for Personalised Transport review before publicly releasing it.

The review was commissioned in October last year and it will put forward plans for how the government can best respond to the burgeoning and controversial ride-sharing industry.

Mr Hinchliffe said the government would release its response to the review and the document itself at the same time.

However, he was unable to say when that would take place.

"It is something that we want to be doing in a prompt way," he told Parliament on Thursday.

"We know that there are significant expectations out there in the community

"This is part of the reason the Premier expressed her desire to the OPT review for the matter to be brought forward and for the final review to come to government by the end of July.

"This still leaves us in the framework where the broader expectation had been about an outcome in the context of August this year.

"I think that works for us."

Parliament resumes on August 16.
