UPDATE 2PM: Police have been unable to substantiate an earlier report of an armed man walking through an Ipswich school.

Checks were conducted at Bremer State High School about 10.50am today after a student reported seeing a person armed with a knife.

Police said foot patrols and viewing of closed circuit TV footage were unable to find anything to back up the claim.

The school was placed in lockdown for a short time, but classes are now back to normal.
