Hetty Johnston to stand for mayor

BRAVEHEARTS founder Hetty Johnston will announce today her intention to run for mayor at next year's Logan City Council elections.

Ms Johnston, the current Queensland Australian of the Year, has made a profoundly positive impact on child protection over the past two decades.

She said she would step down from her role at Bravehearts early next year to focus on her mayoral campaign.

"I love Logan, it is our home, we have raised our family here, our kids went to school here and we ran a small business from here," she said.

"Our friends are here and Australia's leading child protection organisation was born here.

"We are Logan through and through and we are proud to call this amazing city our home."

Council elections across the state are due to be held in March, 2016.
