AFTER 35 years at Frank & Jeff Discount Tyres on Darling St, owner and founder Frank Stenstra has finally decided to retire.
Mr Stenstra first started in the industry at the age of 15.
Now 67, the tyre specialist said making the decision to retire wasn't easy and leaving would be bittersweet.
"It's daunting. I've had 52-and-a-half years in this industry," he said.
"I'll miss the customers the most, some I've known for 30 or 40 years.
"That's going to be the hardest part."
Mr Stenstra said he and his wife Kathy, who thought her husband might never retire, are set to travel Australia.
"I honestly didn't think I'd see the day," Mrs Stenstra said.
"But we've bought a caravan and we're going to Carnarvon Gorge, Cairns and along the Great Ocean Road.
"We will spend some time with the grandkids as well and just enjoy retirement."
Before buying his own business, Mr Stenstra worked in NSW and then moved to Ipswich to work for Ian Boettcher Discount Tyres.
"Starting my own business was the best decision I have ever made," he said.
The recent retiree said his business would be keeping the Frank and Jeff name but would now be operated by his loyal employees - Andrew, Fred and Danny.
"It took 40 years to build this place up," Mr Stenstra said.
"It's going to be hard to stay away but the business is in good hands.
"I'd like to say a big thank-you to Ipswich and ask that people keep supporting the boys here," he said.
Frank & Jeff Discount Tyres is located at 23 Darling St, Woodend.
