Trail bike death the latest in string of tragedies

A DIRT bike rider killed outside Gympie has shocked the community, and is the latest life lost by dirt and quad bike riders across Queensland.

The 31-year-old man from Cooran died in Nambour General Hospital after being taken by ambulance on Sunday afternoon with "serious head injuries".

His bike was the only vehicle involved in the accident according to police, and was thought to be riding alone.

At least four other riders have also been killed on trail or quad bikes across the state in 2016.

A 30-year-old man from the Fraser Coast was killed after his trail bike collided with an oncoming four-wheel-drive in mid-January.

He was accompanied by a second rider.

Neither the other rider, nor the driver of the oncoming vehicle were injured.

Ambulance officers attempted CPR on the rider at the scene, but he could not be revived.

In March, Guy Langhans, 18, struck a ditch outside the Nindigully Hotel in south-west Queensland, which rolled his quad bike.

Emergency services could not save the teenager, who had been riding his quad bike on an abandoned motorcross track near the hotel.

Balonne Shire Mayor Donna Stewart said the death was a "terrible tragedy".

The death also came just two days after the Queensland Government announced a plan to address quad bike safety.

 

Trail bike rider killed after losing control on rural road

The man in his 30s is thought to have lost control of his trail bike on a remote road in far north Queensland on April 7.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

It is understood he fell from his bike as he took a bend on Bloomfield Road, south of Cooktown.
 


One teen dead, another was "fighting for life" after trail bike collision

Two days later, a 14-year-old was killed and his mate left fighting for his life after the pair crashed into one another while riding trail bikes on the Gold Coast.

The second teenager involved, 17, was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police described the incident as "a tragic accident between two mates doing something they loved".
