Grandparents head back to kindy for day

DOZENS of Ipswich grandparents went back to school this week when the Ipswich Kindergarten held its annual grandparent day.

Ipswich Kindergarten on Milford Street is the region's oldest childcare facility.

It opened in 1937 and last week was swarming with many of the region's older generation, including some with both children and grandchildren who attended the kindergarten.

Neal Flashman sent his daughter Liza to the kindergarten and after her great experience, Liza also sent her daughter Lucinda and son Benjamin to the facility.

Mr Flashman said not much had changed since he watched his daughter dive face first into the kindy's sand pit decades ago.

“Not a great deal has changed and that's what makes it such a great kindy,” Mr Flashman said.

“The teaching is barely different to when Liza was here.”
