Got a spare hundred bucks? Here's where you could fly to now

WANTING to head interstate but can't cope with the cost?

Jetstar has dropped a discount flight special for direct flights from the Sunshine Coast sparking an online frenzy.

Sunshine Coast Airport posted details of the discount flights this afternoon, with plenty of travellers jumping on and tagging a friend in on the cut-price action.

The discount carrier is looking to generate a pre-Christmas period spike, offering direct flights from the Coast to Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne later this year and early next year for as little as $59 one-way.

For those planning a post-Christmas trip, you can get yourself to Sydney for $59 one-way between January 11-March 29, 2017 or to Adelaide for $79 one-way in the same period.

For those looking for a more immediate escape, one-way to Sydney is on offer from October 11 to December 13 from $79, while you can get to Adelaide for $79 one-way from October 19 to December 11.

You can get from the Coast to Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport for $79 from November 29 to December 13.

The discounts represent about a 40% reduction in usual rates and cover Jetstar's busiest travel period, from October this year through to May next year, offering an opportunity for families to score cheap flights for school holidays on the Sunshine Coast or for locals to escape the holiday rush and head south during peak tourism season.

Launched today, the Jetstar sale will run through to Monday (August 1) and comes just a day after budget airline Scoot flagged its interest in opening up direct, discount flights from the Coast to Singapore, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and the Maldives.
