Gillard announces funding for cancer data collection

THE Federal Government will spend just over $2 million to improve data collection on cancer cases throughout the country.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced the $2.4 million of funding in Brisbane on Wednesday.

She said there was currently a gap in data about the outcomes of treatment, depending on the stage of disease at diagnosis.

The funds will see the government collect and report national data in the next four years.

Data will be gathered about stage of cancer at diagnosis, treatments and recurrence of cancer after treatment.
