A SPOOKY photo showing a ghoulish figure of what appears to be a man has been spotted in dense bushland near Toowoomba.

The image posted by Toowoomba Ghost Chasers was shared by a member of the group who was hiking at a notorious waterhole south of Toowoomba.

The post reads: "All of a sudden he felt as though he was being watched and followed and he felt an awful feeling of dread wash over him.

"Then when going back through his photos he found this.

"Bear in mind this is the middle of bushland, it's rare to see something so large and 'red' and other hikers would be dressed differently."

Brock Calcutt was the man who took the photo and said he was surprised by the reaction online.

"Wow this really blew up. I'm the guy who took this photo. I'm still alive and I'm hoping to stay that way."

He said he was waiting to get back to his computer to have a proper look through the rest of the photos.

Mr Calcutt feels like he has been haunted by something since taking the photo.

"This was about two weeks ago. Oddly enough I've been experiencing a similar feeling of dread every once in a while over the last week. I'll be walking down the street and all of a sudden feel like something is about to jump out at me from behind a tree," he wrote online.

The scary post generated a lot of discussion online.

Group member Vicki Beezley wrote of her last experience in the park, saying she had "lots of cold shivers" and thought she was being followed.

Renette Burge said it was "creepy" while Naveen Kartha wrote the man looked like a priest.

Amy Jeeps said: "He has no face!"

Emma Flood said: "This photo is so creepy! It's making me feel sick."

The photo was taken in a  national park near Goomburra, south of Toowoomba in a spot allegedly notorious for suicides.

Jasmine Veness said: "Honestly most pics I see I think are fake and usually they are proven to be pretty quickly.

"But this made me feel strange like sick in the stomach and made my heart jump when i looked again and saw him so weird wonder if he if one of the suicides?"

Katie Harvey from Toowoomba Ghost Chasers said it was scary for the person who took the photo.

"He thought someone was following him.

"We've had other members on that post say they felt the same way in that area, which is scary."
