FOOTBALL: He pulls the strings in midfield and is an unsung hero in his side.
His teammates often take the plaudits and headlines but Frenchville centre-mid Ryan Hickey below showed why he is a key cog in the premiers eleven.
Not only did he run the show in Frenchville's dominant 6-0 win over the Emerald Eagles on Saturday night, Hickey found himself on the score sheet.
And what a goal it was, drifting in from the right, Hickey cut onto his left and blasted the ball from outside the box into the left-hand corner of the net.
"I try to get my feet on the ball in the middle and control things but if I find some space and get a few shots away I am happy,” Hickey said post-game.
"I do a lot of them in training, shots from outside the box, but in games I usually spray them wide or over, so pretty happy to get that one.
"I've only got five for the year, more focused on trying to set up the other boys to finish them off.”
Hickey would have found a second, only to be denied by Emerald's superb keeper Glenn Gilmour.
Four weeks out from finals, Hickey said they were on the right track.
"Definitely pleased with the win, our first goal was to get a clean sheet and we did that. We played our own style well which will please the coach.
"We are building as a side pretty well, we have the same team as last year so we will go into the finals pretty well.
"We were good today but I think we had another gear in us. The second half we improved and got a good win.”
For Emerald, who face a three-hour bus ride every second week, and even longer one on the way back, were forced to have several players play two grades.
The Eagles held firm in defence for the majority of the half before a dubious penalty brought about their downfall.
"Always have to step the game up against Frenchville,” Gilmour said.
"Quality team, quality players. We held out for 30 minutes but their strength showed in the final result.”
