Citroen Cactus and Peugeot 308 GTi coming soon

IT'S been a busy week for PSA Peugeot Citroen in Australia, with more information on the funky Citroen Cactus revealed, plus confirmation the hot hatch Peugeot 308 GTi is coming down under in early 2016.

Not done yet, Peugeot's 208 GTi 30th Anniversary model - a special edition of 500 units worldwide commemorating the iconic 205 GTi's 30th birthday - has arrived, priced from $35,990.

We're getting just 26 of these Peugeot Sport-developed instant collectors' items and all but four are already spoken for. Want one? Be quick.

Returning to the Citroen Cactus, we have been told that two drivetrains will be offered locally - an 81kW/205Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol with five-speed manual, and a 68kW/230Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel with six-speed semi-auto transmission.

The uber-funky Cactus models - standing out with their unique Air Bump bodywork protection - have not been for sale in Australia as yet due to the rear seats not having top-tether anchor points for child seats.

It's taken about a year to remedy, but an Australian market-specific 60:40 rear fold seat with top-tether anchor points means the Cactus is now approved for local sale.

Great news for Citroen, as the out-there Cactus is just the style statement model its range needs to remind buyers - old and new - why it's the most innovative French car marque.

As for the Peugeot 308 GTi, we'll be receiving both 182kW/330Nm and 200kW/330Nm versions of the hot hatch big brother to the much-lauded 208 GTi.

Peugeot Sport developed, both variants feature a 1.6-litre petrol motor with six-speed manual 'box.

The 200kW version boasts a Torsen limited slip differential and an impressive six-seconds 0-100kmh time.

Australian pricing for the 308 GTi will be revealed closer to its early 2016 launch, while full equipment and price expectation for Citroen's Cactus will be known next week.
