Fatal shooting causes outrage in US

ANOTHER death of a black man at the hands of police has caused outrage in the US.

In the latest fatal shooting by police caught on video, Alton Sterling, 37, was shot several times on Tuesday as he was held to the ground by two officers outside a shop in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The father of five sold CDs and DVDs outside the store with the permission of the store owner.

Baton Rouge police said Sterling was armed at the time he was killed, but one witness said an officer had removed a gun from Sterling's pocket. Footage of the incident appears to show Mr Sterling did not have a gun in his hand.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave and the US Department of Justice has launched a civil rights investigation.

Hundreds of people have spent the past two nights protesting at the site of the shooting.
