GRAPHIC IMAGES: Family wants answers over murdered dog

PHOTOS of a dog who was tortured and murdered have devastated the Collinsville community and the owner, who wants answers.

Yesterday, Rebecca Reeves Sikei posted graphic images of her American Bulldog, Evie, on the Collinsville Buy Swap and sell Facebook Page, in a bid to find the person responsible for maiming and killing her beloved pet.

The two-year-old dog was found half-skinned with her legs burnt, throat slit and both ears cut off at an oval in the centre of Scottville.

"(A) $1000 reward leading to the conviction of the person responsible for killing my dog after it was taken from off a chain in my backyard while my kids played out front," was what Ms Sikei wrote in her Facebook post.

On Thursday, June 30, Ms Sikei's parents were looking after her two sons, aged five and seven, when Evie went missing.

Desperately searching the surrounding areas and making calls to the local pound to see if Evie had been handed in, Ms Sikei was unsuccessful in her efforts.

That is until yesterday, when Ms Sikea received a phone call from the local pound to say they'd found a dog matching Evie's description.

"I asked if she'd been hit by a car and they said no and I asked if she'd been shot and they said no," she said.

"I asked them what happened to her and they said she'd basically been beaten.

"They asked if I wanted to be sent photos but I said I wanted to see her for myself."

Evie has been taken to Bowen so the RSPCA can begin criminal proceedings.

Ms Sikei and her husband rescued Evie about two years ago.

"She had a terrible start to life and now she's had a terrible ending," she said.

With her two sons playing out the front of the house at the time Evie was stolen, Ms Sikei said it was scary to think her children could easily have been taken.

"Obviously someone who can do something like that doesn't have a conscience so they could have taken my kids," she said.

Community members have shown their anger and support over the news, sharing their thoughts on social media.

Ms Sikei said she was overwhelmed by the enormous show of support and thanked them for what they've done.

"People have dropped off money and fruit to add to the reward," she said.

"The community spirit has been amazing."
