Family tragedy delays Toowoomba South outcome

BREAKING: Counting for the hotly contested Toowoomba South seat continues as one of the two front runners comes to grips with a family tragedy.

Independent Di Thorley, who secured more than 35 per cent of the primary vote in the Saturday by-election, refused to concede the seat, turning her attentions to her father who suffered a heart attack at the weekend.

A spokeswoman for Ms Thorley declined to comment today when contacted by The Chronicle.

A statement is expected tomorrow as counting continues and the LNP's David Janetzki increases his lead in the battleground seat.

With more than 82% of the Toowoomba South roll counted, Mr Janetzki has lengthened his lead over Ms Thorley by 3100 votes.
