Evans remains second after gruelling stage of Giro d'Italia

AUSSIE rider Cadel Evans held onto second place overall behind leader Vincenzo Nibali after a tough 10th stage in the Giro d'Italia.

Olympic silver medallist Rigoberto Uran won the stage, which ended with a 4.4km climb to the summit at Altopiano del Montasio.

Evans and Nibali responded strongly, but pre-race favourite Sir Bradley Wiggins found the pace too hot and came in 37seconds behind the pair.

After the stage, Nibali led Evans by 41seconds, with Uran moving up into third overall, 2mins 04secs behind the leader.

Wiggins was a further second back in fourth place.
