Evans only seconds behind race leader in Italy

AUSSIE Cadel Evans was hot on the wheels of Italian Vincenzo Nibali heading into the ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia overnight.

The former Tour de France champion was second overall, and just 29 seconds behind the leader before the 170km ride from Sansepolcro to Florence.

England's defending Tour de France champion, Sir Bradley Wiggins, was fourth, despite crashing in stage seven and getting a puncture in stage eight.
