THE arts culture in Nambour is one of the most up-and-coming industries on the Coast.

The township's burgeoning artists, musicians, and performers will all take centre stage in the coming weeks as part of the Horizon Underground Festival.

Created as a fringe on the side of the hugely successful Horizon Festival, Horizon Underground is designed to offer attendees a 10-day program of experimental works, emerging artists and new experiences.

Rebecca Dostal, program manager, said the majority of participating artists were all based around the region.

"There are so many artists here and they are often hidden, so we wanted to do a big festival still under the main banner, but as a fringe component," she said.

"We have something on every day for a week, and then every other day or night there is something happening...it's a big program- we came into it about mid April, so it has been a real whirlwind.

"It has been incredible to find out how many artists are out there."

Ms Dostal said one of the highlights would be the Paris-themed dinner Diner en Noir.

Horizon Underground will kick of on Saturday, August 26 with family festival 'A Day at C-Square', followed by the 'Hey-Lowe' festival in the evening.

Hey Lowe will showcase Chris Flaskas, The Outsiders, The Doo Wop Dolls, The GMU Dancers and Steve Langton's Loud Weird.

Horizon Underground will also feature a number of experiences including the Nambour audio trail, exhibitions, theatre performances, a burlesque show, and a series of workshops.

While events such as the dinner require registration, the majority of events are free and open to the public.

Ms Dostal said the fringe festival would showcase Nambour.

"Our main aim was to activate different areas in Nambour," she said.

"The whole narrative of our festival is that there's something on every day and none of them clash, so you can go from one to the other.

"We need to acknowledge the help of Horizon, Old Ambulance Station, and the Community Centre...and I really have to thank my operations manager Joey Kohnke and Jude Pippen; and Helen from the Hinterland Harvest Market."

Horizon Festival is presented by the Sunshine Coast Council and supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Tourism and Events Queensland.
