Drunken act costs man $1000 in fines and repairs

GEOFFREY Aaron Martin will have to pay more than $1000 after breaking a glass door at Night Owl Convenience Store in Pialba.

Martin, 30, pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to the charge of wilful damage.

The court heard an intoxicated Martin was instructed to leave the store about midnight on March 31, after verbally abusing other shoppers.

Martin punched the glass door and broke it after being escorted outside.

"One of the worst things you can take your anger out on is glass," said Magistrate Graeme Tatnell, who fined Martin $750.

Martin will also have to pay $275 to Night Owl for damage to the door.
