Drunk dad loses licence after taking spin on kid's motorbike

NOSTALGIA took a turn for the worse for a man caught riding his child's motorbike while drunk last month.

Anthony Luke Myers pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to four charges, including driving under the influence.

The court heard Myers was observed by police riding a small motorbike without a helmet in the early hours of March 18.

The defendant failed to stop when instructed by police, instead veering off the road and into bushland near the Gladstone Fitness Trail.

He was caught and arrested a short time later. Myers returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.164%.

His lawyer Megan Creaser told the court her client had been drinking with a friend and reminiscing about "old times riding motorbikes".

"They got talking about old times and he was feeling nostalgic," she said.

"It didn't occur to him that he was over the limit."

The motorbike was not registered or insured. Myers was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $1300.
