Healthy hit: Free lunches for kids' health at Raw Energy
AFTER discovering that 93% of kids weren't eating properly, Geoff Campbell couldn't sit back and do nothing.
The owner of Raw Energy health food shops knew that many parents were either too busy or didn't know enough about nutrition to solve the problem.
But he had both the time, the knowledge and the means to make a difference.
So tomorrow youngsters under 10 will receive a free lunch at all its cafes on the Coast.
The #HealthyHit day is something Mr Campbell is taking very seriously.
How healthy are your kids?
This poll ended on 30 June 2015.
Very, they eat what I eat
Not very, I wish they would be more open to new foods
When I was a kid I don't think the word Kale even existed!
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
"After recent research by Raw Energy revealed that a whopping 93% of kids are not getting the recommended daily vegetable intake and 26% aren't getting enough fruit, we knew we had to do something to promote a healthier lifestyle in our local community," he said.
"We know that most people are so busy juggling work and raising kids that it can be really difficult to find the time to maintain the right mix of foods needed for a healthy, balanced diet.
"As well, there are so few healthy, quick food options available that busy parents often resort to unhealthy fast foods that hold next to no nutritional value.
"We want to show them that there is an alternative, and we're going to do it for free so people know we are serious about change."
Of the parents surveyed, 44% cited their children's fussiness as the cause of their dietary choices, and nearly a quarter blamed the cost of healthy eating.
"We want to encourage all parents to bring their kids in so that we can prove to them that healthy and nutritious can also be tasty and kid-friendly."
