CHAMBER CHAT: Author Napoleon Hill said in his book Think and Grow Rich: "One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat."

This is a poignant reminder for small business owners that the road to success is tough. Every small business owner has felt failure, defeat, and rejection despite long working hours and using all of their skills.

If you are having trouble with growing your business, it may be time to seek help. Like many businesses, the funds and resources may not be available to pay experts and professionals their fees. There is help potentially available from both the state and federal governments by way of business grant funding.

Grants can assist businesses to succeed and develop through activities such as expansion, commercialisation, research and development, innovation and exporting.

The Accelerate Small Business Grants Program is offered by the Queensland government and can be used to engage business mentors, coaches or an advisory board. There are a number of eligibility criteria to be aware of. Another offering is the Small Business Digital Grants Program which provides small businesses with access to digital technologies and services to enable them to work smarter.

The Federal Government's program for business competitiveness and productivity is the Entrepreneurs' Programme. Funding can be granted to engage advisors to assist you with your business operations.

For business owners, the next step would be to talk to your accountant about your options and what's available to you.
