Bedroom fire in Roma started by toddler with lighter
A HOUSE fire in Roma this morning was started by a two-year-old playing with a lighter.
The fire started while the owner of the house was sleeping.
One adult was transported to Roma Hospital for smoke inhalation.
Two children were inside the house at the time of the fire but are not hurt.
The Luff and South Sts fire started at about 8am.
A neighbour, who declined to be named, said: "We just came back from dropping the kids off when we saw the flames."
"There were flames coming out of the front window."
The home owner said: "I'm still getting there - you don't usually wake up to that every morning.
"We tried (to put it out) with buckets and hoses but we couldn't keep it under control."
The family moved into the house just eight weeks ago.
"That window (at the front) would not open - we had to break it (to get hoses in)," the owner said.
"I didn't know he was strong enough to use a lighter."
