Cowboys sliding towards bottom of ladder with another loss

THE Cowboys' season slipped further out of control in their 31-12 loss to the Titans at Skilled Park yesterday, with Gold Coast's Albert Kelly and William Zillman both scoring doubles.

The loss heaped more pressure on North Queensland coach Neil Henry, after reports surfaced last week that he needed his team to perform well against the Titans, and the Bulldogs on Saturday, to keep his job.

Custodian Zillman and Kelly combined beautifully in the 37th minute, after Zillman broke clear to send the livewire halfback over, before Aidan Sezer's field goal gave the hosts a 19-4 half-time lead.

The hosts scored their first two tries, to Zillman and Mark Minichiello, after Cowboys five-eighth Michael Morgan did not properly execute three kicks.

The Cowboys started strongly in the second half, with young forward Jason Taumalolo (158m) regularly threatening the line.

But the Titans shattered their opponents with Zillman's second try after 51 minutes, courtesy of a lovely inside ball from David Taylor.

The North Queenslanders hit back seven minutes later through an amazing try to Ashley Graham, who caught a Clint Greenshields kick at full stretch and planted the ball down just before the sideline.

But Kelly sealed the game in the 73rd minute, running 85 metres to score after a loose Cowboys pass, before Ethan Lowe scored a try on debut for the visitors in the 80th minute.
