Cosmetic touch-ups that won't 'surprise' you

WE ALL age. But getting older and looking older are two different things.

Many women feel time is unkind not so much in the well-earned maturing of the face but in the fact that they look tired or less like the person they feel inside.

Specialist cosmetic registered nurse Brooke Francisco sees plenty of clients who want to look fresher but not fake.

The plumped and pulled look is not for those who attend treatment at Dr Craig Layt's clinics.

Brooke has trained in facial artistry with Dr Herve Raspaldo, a specialist in aesthetic surgery and face and neck rejuvenation procedures in Cannes, whom she says is very innovative.

"He keeps people looking like themselves."

It's all about product choice and placement, says Brooke.

Technique is crucial and can make the difference between a fresh, natural look and something that screams cosmetic surgery.

Fortunately for those who do not want to go under the knife, there are a growing range of options for de-aging the face.

Brooke says her recent client, a 50-something professional woman was feeling tired looking and that this was especially obvious in the under eye area and around the mouth.

She used a filler called Voluma by Juvederm under the eye area, via the cheeks.

This product lasts for18 months, according to the manufacturer, so the longevity of the treatment is attractive.

The amount required was 2ml and the treatment cost $1200.

At the corner of the mouth and down to the jaw line Brooke also used Voluma to plump up the marionette lines.

Only 0.5ml per side was required, at a total treatment cost of $660.

"It picked up the corners of her lips and lifted that area," she says.

The client also had a low-dose hydrating treatment, part of the Juvederm Ultra range, around the lips, at a cost of $300.

Finally Brooke addressed the area around the eyes with some soft Botox.

"It was important to her that she still had movement there. She didn't want the frozen look."

A total of 20ml of Botox was used, at a cost of $340.

Brooke says side effects of the treatment can include some tenderness and swelling.

"But there is a local anaesthetic embedded in the Juvederm and this minimises discomfort.

"The other advantage with this type of treatment is that you can be back to work the next day."

Brooke says that with all these types of treatments it is important to choose a practitioner who understands how you want to look and who has up-to-date training and experience.

Total cost of the rejuvenation was $2500.
