Cops urge male rape victims to come forward

DETECTIVES are investigating unsolved male on male rape cases going back 10 years after a 48-year-old Moorooka man was charged over a recent sex attack.

The man, who will face court this morning, was arrested after the alleged sexual assault of a 22-year-old man about 4am on July 2.

Police said the alleged victim was walking home after a night out in Fortitude Valley when a stranger offered him a lift.

The stranger drove the young man to a quiet street in Brisbane's north where he allegedly attacked him.

"The (younger) man fled the vehicle and attended a nearby service station to raise the alarm," police said in a media release.

Detectives said they believed the charged man was involved in a similar attack on another 22-year-old in May, 2007.

"It will further be alleged the (other) intoxicated man was driven to a car park in Brisbane's south where he was sexually assaulted," the media release said.

"The man managed to leave the vehicle and seek help.

"Detectives are investigating several other reported incidents in the Brisbane area in the past 10 years and are encouraging anyone who may have been a victim of a similar assault to report the matter to police."

The charged man is  scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
