A COOLUM manufacturer is looking to double its workforce by December.

Positions for caravan and coach builders, fabricators and boilermakers, cabinetmakers, boat builders and sales staff will all be on offer as manufacturer Zone RV expands.

From high performance yacht manufacturing to pioneering the caravan industry, Zone RV is rapidly expanding as its innovative technology makes waves.

In an industry first, Zone RV has combined building materials found in the marine, transport, aircraft and civil composite industries with innovative, world-class construction technologies to create a lighter, stronger, smarter and safer caravan, co-founder and director David Biggar said.

Mr Biggar grew up in Noosa, spending most of his time sailing yachts and flying in his dad's recreational plane.

After joining forces with fellow sailing enthusiast and Sunshine Coast resident Matt Johns, now co-founder and managing director, the two friends made a conscious decision to build their team using local human resource.

"While Zone RV might be considered 'new' in terms of caravan brands, our team of local experts have over 25 years' experience in composite manufacturing," Mr Biggar said.

"I'm extremely passionate about supporting the local economy, having grown up here my whole life.

"We have a team of 25 Sunshine Coast residents fulfilling a vast variety of positions - from senior roles to interns studying at the University of the Sunshine Coast," said David.

Established in 2015 and recently nominated for Caravan World's Best Aussie Caravan 2016, Zone RV plans to double its total number of employees to 50 by December.

It will need to, to keep up with the booming demand for improved technology, design and operating efficiencies within the caravan market, Mr Biggar said.

This growth will coincide with the company's factory upgrade in size, as Zone RV looks to design a streamlined manufacturing facility in Coolum using high performance manufacturing technologies and original designs.

With the co-founders' backgrounds in sailing and aviation, Zone RV applies a completely new approach to building its range of full off-road and luxury touring caravans, Mr Biggar said.

"Each caravan is built with Tufflite panels found in the marine and aircraft industries, exclusive Panelock bonding, monocoque construction (originally developed for boats, aircrafts and rockets) and precision engineering - leaving zero room for error."
