Coast man faces court on historic sex offence charges

A SUNSHINE Coast man charged with sex offences from more than 25 years ago has faced court for the first time.

The 59-year-old man, who can not be named for legal reasons, stood quietly at the bar table with his hands clasped in front of him as lawyer Chelsea Emery requested his matters be adjourned for seven weeks.

He was charged in July over alleged historic sex offences from Hinchinbrook Island, off northern Queensland, in 1991.

The man has been accused of attempted rape, indecent assault, indecently exposing himself to a child under 16 years old, and the indecent treatment of children under 16, as well as two counts of unlawful penetration.

His bail was extended until his matters are due to return to court for committal mention on October 6.
