China sends Hague a message

WITH a July 12 decision expected in The Hague on challenges to China's maritime claims in the South China Sea, Beijing has announced it will hold military drills around the disputed Paracel Islands from today until July 11.

Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan all have claims to areas also claimed by China in the South China Sea. China refuses to engage with the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Netherlands.

China has released the geographic coordinates for the drills and announced a ban on international shipping and aircraft in the area during that time.
