Child drowns in dam near Charters Towers

BREAKING: A child has drowned in a dam west of Townsville.

Northern Patrol Group Townsville District Inspector Damien Crosby said an 8-year-old child had drowned in a dam in the Charters Towers area this morning.

"Police are just arriving at the scene," he said.

It's believed the child is a boy.

The drowning reportedly took place on a private property.

The Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating the incident.
