Car hits cow at 100kmh, causing chaos for highway

A MAN is lucky to have escaped serious injury after his car hit a cow at 100kmh early this morning.

Police say the man hit the beast while travelling east along the Warrego Hwy at Haigslea, about 4.30am.

The badly injured cow briefly got up off the highway and walked towards nearby Claus Rd, before collapsing and dying.

The driver sustained some minor cuts and bruises, and was checked by paramedics, but did not require transport to hospital.

His vehicle was extensively damaged.

Police say the highway was blocked for a short time while the animal was removed, but it has since been reopened.
