YOUR STORY: Help Pepsi walk again after Kawana dog attack
THREE weeks ago my parents eight-year-old minature foxy Pepsi was mauled on her regular daily walk in Kawana.
A large bull mastiff was sitting under a park bench (on a leash, but not being held by its owner) and as they walked by the dog charged out and grabbed Pepsi around her neck and shoulder and started shaking her. The owner had to grab and even punch his dog to get it off Pepsi.
My distraught mother then had to rush heavily bleeding Pepsi home to get her to the vet. She was unable to get any details of the owner or the dog.
Her bite marks are healing and she is in a sling to help protect her broken shoulder blade. This is all we can do at the moment to help the fracture heal.
The vet said it only just missed her Coronary artery and she is lucky to be alive.
So far the vet bill has been $1000 for all of the stitches, xrays, injections, antibiotics etc, but even after all of the stitches have come out Pepsi was still not putting weight on her front right leg.
After being re-xrayed it has been found that Pepsi has a fractured Scapula (shoulder blade). This is quite a significant injury and it will definitely cause her issues with mobilising if it is not fixed correctly.
My parents (who are both retired and are living on the pension) have been quoted $4000 for the surgery to fix Pepsi shoulder, which is a cost they just can't afford.
Currently Pepsi is in a sling to try and help the bone heal, but surgery might be the only option to helping her walk normally and pain free again.
We would so greatly appreciate any help that you can offer, no matter what the size of the donation. Every little bit will help.
Pepsi is such a sweet little dog who is everyones best friend and I hope we can help make her feel a whole lot better.
