Bulldogs love their warm backyard

WESTERN Bulldogs onballer Mitch Wallis was understandably looking forward to travelling up to the club’s “home away from home” in far north Queensland.

In warmer conditions than what they are used to down south, the Bulldogs have played host to the Gold Coast the past couple of seasons.

“We always love going up to Cairns, especially this time of year – it’s snowing in and around Melbourne; it’s freezing,” Wallis told Australian Regional Media.

The Bulldogs have been far too hot for the Suns in those past two meetings at Cazaly’s Stadium, and will look to make it three from three tomorrow night.

Despite the Queenslanders coming off two straight wins, they have lost the star quality of Gary Ablett (shoulder) and Michael Rischitelli (knee).

“Gold Coast have gone all right the last couple of week – they are going to challenge us,” he said.

“But, if we start well and put them to the sword early, I think we’ll get a good result.

“You’ve got to stick with what you know, back your own structures in.

“The two tall blokes up forward (Tom Lynch and Peter Wright) kicked 10goals between them last week, so that’s obviously a big threat. Hopefully we can control the ball through the midfield and give our forwards first use.”

“It’s a team defence module that Bevo’s (coach Luke Beveridge) got going. We all play our role in defence and offence.”

At 11-4 and sitting fourth, but with a pack chasing them and their top-spot, the Bulldogs know the pressure is on to keep performing.
