Brisbane public servants to fill 'tower of power'

QUEENSLAND'S Tower of Power just got a boost - its tenants will now consist entirely of public servants.

With the Labor Government encountering the same problem as the previous LNP Government, who contracted the 1 William Street premises - a lack of interest from the private sector - Treasurer Curtis Pitt said he was left with no other options, other than to move more public servants into the building.

It means the lower seven floors, which had been set aside for the private sector , will now house government departments.

Those floors were to be rented at about $650 a square metre, which is about $150 more than equivalent space available in the market.

"We have thoroughly investigated all alternative options for public service accommodation in the CBD, this included looking at not moving ministers into 1 William Street, looking at 111 George Street or 33 Charlotte Street, but it is about making the best out of a bad situation," he said.
