Shark bite off the Gold Coast

A MAN was bitten on the lower leg by a small reef shark about 20km off Broadbeach on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

The man has been taken to PIndara Private Hospital for some minor surgery after the incident.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man had caught the shark and reeled it in but it managed to bite him once it was on his boat.

"The shark was ultimately released back into the water and both the gentleman and the shark were both a bit battered and bruised," the spokesman said.

"He actually walked up the beach to meet our paramedics. - he was actually quite jovial about the whole incident."
