Bundy council CEO to retire

AFTER 21 years of running the show, council CEO Peter Byrne announced on Tuesday that he would be hanging up his hat for good in 2017.

Mr Byrne delivered the news to staff, stating he intended to retire at the expiry of his current contract on Friday, April 14.

Mr Byrne has been CEO of Bundaberg Regional Council since it was formed 2008, and ran the former Bundaberg City Council before that.

"It has indeed been an honour and privilege to have worked closely with five mayors and over 30 councillors as CEO for the last 21 years and it has been pleasing to see the city, and now the region, grow and flourish even in the face of numerous challenges including the devastating natural disasters of 2010 and 2013," he said.

"I have enjoyed leading a team of such dedicated and professional staff to assist in the delivery of the vision of the various councils over this time."

Mr Byrne was unavailable for comment late on Tuesday.
