The other BBL season in Queensland
BIG is now bootyful when it comes to buttocks, as hundreds of body-conscious Queenslanders go under the knife in a bid to look like Kim Kardashian and Beyonce.
The Brazilian butt lift (BBL) craze has hit the Sunshine State, with celebrities including the Kardashians, J Lo, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce fuelling the trend.
The four-hour surgery, which is performed under sedation and costs at least $11,000, uses a person's own fat to enhance the size and shape of the buttocks, using liposuction to remove fat from the patient's stomach, hips, and thighs.
Dr Mitchell Kim, at the Gold Coast's Cosmos Clinic, performs two to three BBLs every week on women aged 18 to 60, and estimates a 40 per cent increase in procedures in the past two years.
"Beyonce is definitely our most popular request because it is a bit more of a natural look than Kim Kardashian," he said.
"Most women want to have lean legs with big popping bums, because it's a very feminine trait, but this look can't be achieved in the gym."
Hairdresser Elle Bee, of Hope Island, spent $22,000 on her BBL, which was a more involved procedure due to her being naturally slim.
The 29-year-old, who has also had a boob job, facial fillers, and has also considered a nose job, said she first heard about the procedure after seeing celebs with BBLs on social media.
"I had to put on weight for the surgery and the doctor took fat from a lot more areas," she said.
"Now I have a small waist and a big bottom and get compliments all the time."
