OLYMPICS: Possibly denied Olympic gold herself by a steroid-using rival, three-time silver medallist Raelene Boyle wants Russia completely banned from competing at next month’s Rio Games.

Boyle, who finished second to East Germany’s Renate Stecher in the 100m and 200m sprints at the 1972 Munich Olympics, told the ABC it was no surprise a World Anti-Doping Agency investigation concluded Russia’s FSB spy agency had helped athletes evade dope tests.

The WADA report found the Russian Government had operated a “state-dictated failsafe system” of doping, including at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

“I think you’ve got to be pretty naive if you believe that only the track and field athletes are taking some performance-enhancing drugs,” Boyle said.

“I would have little doubt that there would be many people, if any, in their entire team that would not be taking something.”

The International Olympic Committee is exploring the legal ramifications of completely banning Russia from competing at the Games.

The IOC says it will decide its position after the Court of Arbitration for Sport rules tomorrow on Russia’s appeal against the IAAF’s ban on its track and field athletes.
